Fracture Mechanics Tests and Analyses of the AEDC APTU Storage Vessel Material

Abstract

A test program to evaluate cyclic crack growth rates and residual strengths of flawed panels has been completed. The test specimens were from representative high pressure air storage tanks similar to those used in the AEDC APTU test facility. The test results reported herein, coupled with the proof test performed at AEDC, provide the data base to use a proof test logic methodology for estimating the minimum cyclic life of the storage tank field.
