Balloon Armament Test (Test Plan).

Abstract

Under the sponsorship of the Armament Development and Test Center (ADTC) Eglin AFB, Florida, a series of tests were conducted by the Range Measurements Laboratory to aid in determining the feasibility of using a tethered balloon system as the lifting device for a munitions high angle impact facility. These tests were conducted during May 1974 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station utilizing the Family II 200,000 cubic foot balloon system which will be configured to provide an elevated stable point to support and release simulated ordnance from various impact angles. The tests were designed to closely approximate portions of the present high angle facility at Sandia and an operational balloon supported high angle facility.
