Parametric Investigation of the Na-N2O + CO Chemical Laser

Abstract

An investigation has been performed on the Na-catalyzed N2O+CO chemical laser. Although the results indicate that at least six chemical reactions are involved, the simple chain reaction, which apparently leads to lasing action, is Na + N2O to N2 + NaO + 21.0 kcal/mole and NaO + CO to CO2 + Na + 66.2 kcal/mole. Measurements were made in the transverse-flow configuration. Gain measurements have been made along the reaction length as a function of the CO/N2O ratio, combustion efficiency, and pressure. Several aspects of the chemical reactions have been studied. Several possible reactions are discussed.
