High Strength Aluminum Alloys Prepared by Improved Solidification Techniques.

Abstract

The work is presented in three parts (I) Preparation and Casting of Metal-Particulate Non-Metal Composites. Up to 30 wt% of particulate ceramic oxides and carbides were dispersed in an Al-5%Si-2%Fe matrix and sand cast into cylindrical slugs. (II) The Effects of Ingot Thermomechanical Processing Treatmemts on Element Homogenization and Recrystallization of 7075-Cr Alloy. (III) Microsegregation in Ternary Peritectic Alloys - A method was devised whereby the peritectic microsegregation in a dilute ternaryeutectic-peritectic alloy may be predicted. Specific predictions are generated for the Al-Mg-Cr and Al-Cu-Cr systems.
