Radiation Transport in Axisymmetric Geometries.

Abstract

The Multi-direction radiation sweep algorithm described previously for a cartesian coordinate system, has been extended to more general geometries. The authors report here tests in cylindrical geometry of theis generalized MDRS algorithm. The algorithm is used for the radial integration of the transport equation only. This solution is compared to the solution of the complete transport problem in a circular cross-section and it is found that the validity of this approximation increases with the opacity of the medium. For the case of thin media, weighting functions are suggested for improving the approximation.
