Inorganic Halogen Oxidizer Research
Abstract
The following novel onium salts were synthesized: NH2F2(+)AsF6(-), NH2F2(+)SbF6(-), OH3(+)AsF6(-), OH3(+)SbF6(-), OH3(+)BF4(-), H2Cl(+)SbF6(-), SH3(+)SbF6(-). The use of low-temperature uv-photolysis resulted in an improved synthesis for known NF4(+) salts and in the isolation of the novel compound (NF4(+))2GeF6(-2). The novel NF3(+) radical cation was obtained. A structural study of I(ONO2)3, ClONO2, FNO2, ClNO2 and the isoelectronic pair NF3O-CF3O(-) was carried out using vibrational spectroscopy. The use of KrF(+) salts for the synthesis of high oxidation state compounds was studied. Crystal field effects and relaxation in O2(+) salts were studied by esr spectroscopy. Low-temperature uv-photolysis was found to be a superior synthetic method for the unstable O2(+) BF4(-) and the novel (O2(+))2GeF6(-2) salts. The vibrational spectra, force fields, and mean square amplitudes of vibration were redetermined for SF4 and SF4O. The reaction of chlorine perchlorate with pentafluoromonochlorobenzene resulted in the addition of 2 moles of ClOClO3 across two of the double bonds of the aromatic ring. An improved synthesis for CF2(FCO)2 was discovered.
