BURP: A Bundle Repeater and Restorer.

Abstract

This thesis examines the problem of broken wires in bundles: It is shown that a much better approximation to the original information can be obtained by connecting the ends of broken wires to an arbitrary neighbor in a so-called 'Repeater.' Further investigation leads to the conclusion that the problem of attrition in numerator/denominator bundle systems (i.e. the decrease in the absolute value of active wires upon multiplication) can be mapped onto the broken wire problem, i.e. that a 'Restorer' can be built which is quite similar to a 'Repeater.' In both cases tri-state logic is used in the relevant circuits.
