An Inventory Control Study of the Central Stores at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant.

Abstract

The research is undertaken as a case study of Inventory Control at a GOCO (Government-Owned-Contractor-Operated) facility. Its purpose is to study an existing system, that of the Line Star Army Ammunition Plant, to determine whether any improvements are possible. An inventory model is developed that is applicable to the system in question. The model is evaluated on the basis of comparison with other well-known forecasting techniques, the comparison criteria being that of forecast error. Conclusions reached from this analysis are as follows: The present control system is adequate, provided that the suggested model is used to augment it; the model suggested would be much more effective if a truer representation of usage were maintained in stock records.
