A Linear Analysis of the Deformation of Pressure Stabilized Beams

Abstract

A linear theory for the behavior of pressure stabilized beams is derived and solutions to the resulting equations are obtained for uniform and concentrated loading for both simply supported and fixed end restraints. The concentrated load solution is in the form of a Green's function for application to more general loading situations. Results from these solutions are presented which illustrate the deformation behavior and load-carrying capacity of pressure stabilized beams as a function of the pressure level, beam geometry and material properties.
