Investigation of Bituminous Cold Mixes for the Protection of Upper River Banks.

Abstract

One of the current methods for protecting upper banks of the river and levee slopes includes the use of penetration-grade asphalt and river bar sand. Both materials must be heated before being blended into a hot sand-asphalt mix. The utility and satisfactoriness of the hot mix has been amply demonstrated during the past several years. A range of materials and mixtures was investigated in the laboratory tests and the more promising mixtures were studied in small-scale field tests.
