Theory of Queues: Problems, Developments and Trends.

Abstract

It is the intention of this paper to give an overview of the growth of queueing theory over the last six and a half decades. The major aim is to draw a global picture, emphasizing only the significant aspects. No attempt is made to give a complete bibliography on the subject. Topics discussed include the following: Problems, terminologies and notations; Application areas; Behavioral analysis; Statistical analysis; Operational analysis; Theoretical analysis techniques; Computational problems; Significant trends.
