An Operational Fire Hazards Analysis of the C-5

Abstract

The objective established for the study was to identify potential fire hazards in the C-5. A potential fire hazard may be identified as any area containing both an ignition source and a combustible material. The C-5, as any aircraft, contains the combustibles (such as hydraulic fluid and JP-4) and ignition sources (such as electrical/electronic components and wiring; hot surfaces; hydraulic motors, actuators, and highspeed rotating components) necessary for fire initiation, i.e., potential fire hazards.
