A Reliable Barrier Against Noise,

Abstract

A Standing Commission for Combatting Noise Pollution was created in 1970 by the Executive Committee of the Tashkent City Soviet Workers' Deputies. A discussion of the progress which has been made in this area is summarized. Representatives interested in the problem reported that the attack on noise pollution is being carried out in two directions simultaneously. On one hand, a number of steps have been taken in the area of city planning - improvements are being made in the lay-out of urban areas and in the standard designs of residential and public buildings; and special protective means, building materials, and construction designs have been created. On the other hand, everything possible is being done to reduce the number of noise sources.
