Energy Transfer Processes in Molecular Lasers.

Abstract

This final report details neutral energy transfer and molecular plasma models which have been developed. These numerical models are exercised on pulsed CO lasers both with and without gas additives. The important phenomenology operative in the CO laser is indicated. Experiments are also presented on the operating characteristics of a CW CO laser both with and without gas additives. These experimental measurements are discussed in the framework of the important plasma and neutral chemistry processes. Sections included are entitled: Modeling of a pulsed CO/N2 molecular laser system; Modeling of a pulsed CO/N2 molecular laser system: effect of temperature and mixture components; and Calculations on the electron energy distribution in a molecular laser plasma.
