Industrial Preparedness in an Arms Control Environment: A Study of the Potential Impact of Sharp Increases in Military Procurement. Volume 2. Complete Report

Abstract

This is the report on an eight-month exploratory study of U.S. industrial preparedness in an arms control environment. The methodology adopted for the analysis was a combination of macro- and microeconomics. The macroeconomic approach involved first a forecast of the U.S. economy into the 1980's assuming no mobilization and then an estimate of the broad impact on that economy should a mobilization of specified dimensions actually occur. The microeconomic analysis, designed to test the capability of key weapon-producing industries to respond to a postulated level of mobilization, was based on extensive interviewing of executives in industries which would be involved in such a mobilization.
