Local Batch Processing on a CDC 1700 Remote Terminal.
Abstract
An operating system was developed for the CDC 1700 computer which permits local batch jobs to be processed while the computer serves as a remote terminal to a large scale CDC computer. The system is designed to be used on a CDC 1700 computer with 32 K words of memory, a card reader, a card punch, a line printer, a plotter, and a disk. The major obstacle in developing the system was the contention between local batch jobs and the remote terminal data streams for the I/O devices. The input of the local batch jobs was implemented by spooling the local batch jobs to a disk and then reading the input from disk during execution.
