Q-Link -- A Portable 30 GHz Solid-State 120 Mb/s Digital Radio.
Abstract
The report describes in detail the concept and implementation of a short hop (2-5 kms) microwave link. All aspects of the link are discussed including the choice of modulation, filtering techniques, high speed data processing, power supplies and the initial results. The terminals of the link, which is fully duplex, are solid-state modules each having a volume of about 0.027 cubic metres (1 cubic foot) and weighing only some 12 kg (27 lbs); this makes the link highly portable. Each module can accept and transmit a digital data stream at rates in excess of 100 M bits/sec - an 8-bit colour TV picture for example. Suitable compact digital processors are also available.
