Manufacture of Veneer and Plywood from United States Hardwoods with Special Reference to the South.

Abstract

Use of hardwood plywood in the United States has continued to increase over the past 20 years and is projected to increase 80 % over the next 20 years. The paper briefly describes the U.S. hardwood resources and log requirements for different grades of plywood. Specific cutting and drying characteristics of hardwood growing on southern pine sites are listed and possible ways suggested to use some of this resource for veneer. Among these uses are specialty plywood and laminated materials and construction and container veneer and plywood.
