A Microwave Surface Acoustic Wave Dispersive IMCON.

Abstract

A program was undertaken to design, fabricate, and test a prototype microwave Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) IMCON which is a wide-band dispersive delay line suitable for pulse compression and micro-scan receiver applications. Described in the report are the analyses and practical constraints which determined the design of the: IMCON Grating, Grating Mode Converter, ZnO Transducers, and Material/Orientation. Fabrication details are discussed for the: Substrates, Fixturing, Photolithography, Sputter Etching, ZnO Sputtering, and Packaging. Experiment results are presented for Grating Mode Converters operating at 30MHz, a SAW-IMCON operating at 60MHz, and the 1000MHz SAW-IMCON.
