Space Sextant High-Altitude Navigation System (SS-HANS) Study, Phase 0 Final Report. Volume VI. Performance Demonstration.

Abstract

This report is dedicated to presentation of the results of a Monte Carlo analysis of two selected orbits (A and B) which are the principal test cases for the evaluation of the SS-HANS concept. The Monte Carlo method applied to this evaluation of navigation accuracy exposes the system to a rigorous, non-linear analysis, an analysis which is intended to either affirm or reject the validity of a simpler linear covariance analysis, described in the Sensitivity Analysis, Vol. V, SS-HANS Final Report. This type analysis, being in essence an unprejudiced system simulation, provides the most complete measure by which the performance of the system may be judged prior to the time that actual flight testing may begin. For this reason this task has been entitled the Performance Demonstration, and it is intended that these results will be used as the basic criteria for SS-HANS accuracy evaluation.
