The Deduction of Concept Instances with and without Rules.

Abstract

Deduction of instances from concepts was investigated by comparing a college student group given four deduction rules with two groups given no rules. An instance was identified as to whether it was an instance of all, some, or none of a list of concepts. Use of these responses was shown to be significantly influenced by presence or absence of rules and by whether responses were made on one or two scans through 10 different problems.
