Oxygen Consumption and Respiratory Quotient in Five Animal Populations Naturally Exposed to Sanguine Electromagnetic Fields,

Abstract

The oxygen consumption and respiratory quotient (RQ) of five species of animals collected adjacent to the Sanguine antenna during summer, 1974, were tested. The species were: wood louse, Oniscus asellus; the earthworms, Lumbricus terrestris and L. rubellus; slug, Arion sp.; and redbacked salamander, Plethodon cinereus cinereus. Controls were collected on the same day, 6 to 13 miles from the nearest Sanguine antenna, and both test and control groups were tested simultaneously. No significant differences were found in the oxygen consumption or RQ between any test and control group of animals.
