The Use of Spectral and Optical Devices for Modeling Logical and Mathematical Operations,
Abstract
The optical devices of dynamic data processing are considered. The dynamic multiplying of functions may be used in an optical block for exciting arithmetical operations on numbers in binary code. For this, two systems of orthogonal masses consisting of linear controlled diaphragms are placed in the light path. The number of diaphragms is determined by the positions of the digits operated on, and the states of diaphragms are determined by the number of the digits (1 or 0). The light flux behind the two diaphragms contains the information about the product of the digits. The optical arithmetic block is also useful in coding or decoding a specific class of images.
