Non-Thermal Features of the Auroral Plasma Due to Precipitating Electrons.

Abstract

It is proposed that the non-linear plasma interactions which stabilize the instability between ambient and precipitating plasma electrons can account for several of the observed non-thermal features of the auroral plasma. Comparison of measurements with the theory shows very good qualitative and quantitative agreement.
