A Proposal for the Position Location of Remote Vehicles.

Abstract

Most municipal and government agencies have a continuing need to track and locate gound vehicles operating within city limits, on main highways, and in off-road terrain. The signals from the individual units when received by the central agency should be continuously plotted so that the real-time location of the vehicles would always be known by central control. The objective of this study was to prepare and demonstrate the operation of the Night Dial equipment position locating and tracking capability using a balloonborne electonic relay. The basic elements of the feasibility demonstration include the balloon, the balloonborne telemetry receive/transmit relay, and the Night Dial sensor in the mobile ground vehicle.
