A Proposal for Balloon-Borne Meteorological Sensors.

Abstract

A system for measuring meteorological parameters at incremental altitudes is described in the report. A balloon is launched from a self-contained support system and instrument packages are attached to the tether at the desired intervals. Each package contains an anemometer (with directional capability), a pressure transducer, dry and wet bulb temperature transducers (or hygrometer). Data from these sensors is transmitted via VHF radio to a receiving station at the tether point where it can be displayed and recorded. A single-vehicle ground support concept is also included.
