High Speed Rotor Balancing.
Abstract
This report summarizes the accomplishments of a study exploring new methods for balancing and designing flexible rotating shafts. Balancing is treated as an optimization problem suitable for computational solution. Techniques are considered which permit the magnitude of the balance weights chosen to lie within practical bounds. One method will suppress the rotor response at speeds higher than those that can be safely negotiated without balancing. An approach is developed for computing the sensitivity of dynamic systems to uncertain loadings. Efficient rotor design schemes are also set forth.
