OMEGA Propagation Corrections: Background and Computational Algorithem,

Abstract

The expository document describes, primarily, the methods and algorithms employed to construct a computer program which efficiently calculates propagation (phase) corrections for the 10.2kHz signal transmitted by the OMEGA Navigation System. In the process of explaining this methodology, system procedures, electromagnetic phenomena, and wave characteristics are frequently referenced. Thus, a review of OMEGA system characteristics and the pertinent principles of VLF, wave propagation are included in this document. Although much of the information presented on this subject is found in the literature, it is, for the most part, contained in many diverse sources and thus is not otherwise available in a unified form.
