Quantitative Optical Data Analysis on Chemical Releases.

Abstract

Winds, temperatures, diffusive and turbulent transport, composition, and chemical reaction processes in the stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere are studied by means of photographic and photoelectric photometry of tracer materials released from rockets and aircraft. The principal quantities measured by photographic photometry are atmospheric diffusion coefficients and concentrations of molecules and atoms, winds and turbulent mixing, inventories and reaction rates of release particles with ambient species.
