Standardisation of Impact Testing of Protective Helmets

Abstract

The study classifies currently used test procedures, and proposes a compromise approach which could form the basis for agreement within the NATO membership for helments for aircrew designed to widely differing standards. In addition to impact protection, penetration resistance and helmet retention, the study specifies requirements for blast protection, maximum all-up weight and location of a helmet's center of gravity.
