Abstract
The report contains background papers for a U.S. Army Seminar on Standard Programming Languages for Command and Control Systems held at Fort Belvoir, VA, 24-25 April, 1975. Topics covered in the 21 papers include both technical and management aspects of language design and standardization. General comments are presented as well as specific observations on the successful standardization of two languages, SIMULA and CORAL 66. The three major divisions of the material are Vol. 1 - 'Standardization --- Its Implementation and Acceptance;' Vol. 2 - 'General Comments' (on language design with emphasis on real-time); and Vol. 3 - 'Command and Control Languages --- Specific Comments' (primarily on CS-4 with one paper on JOVIAL and one on a summary of CORAL 66).
