Compounds of the alpha-Prodine Type. VI. The Synthesis and Reactions of 4-Phenyl-4 Propionoxypiperidinium Chloride.
Abstract
Details of the futile attempts to prepare 4-phenyl-4-propionoxypiperidinium chloride are reported in the open literature. This report, however, describes a successful, patented procedure developed in these laboratories for the syntheses of 4-phenyl-4-propionoxypiperidinium and 4-phenyl-4-acetoxypiperidinium chlorides. Condensation reactions of the 4-phenyl-4-acyloxypiperidinium chlorides enabled the synthesis of l-substituted-4-phenyl-4-acyloxypiperidinium chlorides which are difficult or impossible to prepare by other methods. The novel 1-substituted-4-phenyl-4-acyloxypiperidinium chlorides can be prepared in sufficient quantities for physiological testing.
