A Study of a Method to Improve the Safety of Airplanes.

Abstract

The report developes longitudinal stability equations for a canard configuration airplane. Two computer programs which compare equivalent canard and conventional aircraft are presented. It was determined a canard airplane has a smaller center of gravity range and a lower maximum lift coefficient. For certain types of aircraft, the improved safety can outweigh the lower efficiency.
