High Field Conduction and Breakdown in Liquid Sulfur.

Abstract

The absence of C-H bonds in aprotic and particularly in molecular liquids possessing a wide liquid range enhances the probability of observing alpha-processes in these liquids. Evidence for electron multiplication and breakdown in the liquid phase of sulfur is presented. Current-voltage non-linearities and the bubble-free development of electrical discharges are observed.
