Problems in Laminar Flow-Turbulent Flow

Abstract

A program is suggested for the numerical simulation of the transition from laminar to turbulent flow. It is believed that this will materially improve insight into transition and that it should improve ability to make predictions. The problems to be treated (in a preliminary ordering) are: transition in the boundary layer over a flat plate, transition in the wake of a flat plate, transition in the flow over wedges (Falkner-Skan profiles), and modifications of the flat-plate transition due to suction, roughness, compliant boundary conditions, and heating.
