Optimal Design of Continuous Structural Systems.

Abstract

In this report, optimal design of continuous structural systems is considered. A generalized steepest descent method based on optimal control techniques is developed. The method is applied to simply supported beam and plate problems. Constraints considered for these problems are bounds on displacement, natural frequency and design variables. Results for simultaneous imposition of various constraints are new.
