Minimization of Lock-in Roll Moment on Missiles via Slots.
Abstract
An experimental wind tunnel study was conducted to determine whether a method for minimizing the roll lock-in moment on cruciform fin configurations could be developed from analysis of the fin-pressure distribution. Pressure and force tests show that at subsonic speeds, outboard fin slots produce the greatest reduction in the roll lock-in moment throughout the angle of attack range. However, this reduction is not significantly greater than a central slot of the same area.
