NORMAN (NORMalizing ANalyzer).

Abstract

NORMAN is a pattern recognition machine which recognizes two-dimensional figures under conditions of translation, rotation, and magnification. It uses 'intelligent scanning' to build up a profile of any arbitrary figure and stochastic (i.e. probabilistic) processing to normalize the profile with respect to the three permutations.
