An Evaluation of Available Wave Refraction Models for Use on the CDC 3100 Computer,

Abstract

An examination of five wave refraction models from various experiments were examined as to their applicability to Naval problems. Of the five, the Wilson model, Dobson's original model and the University of Delaware Dobson model were examined in detail for a grid encompassing the Columbia River mouth. An evaluation of the results obtained and program running requirements was made to ascertain which model was best suited to operational tasks. It was found that the Delaware-Dobson model was superior to the other two and has been found to compare well with Griswold's model. Recommendations and areas of possible improvement were also noted.
