Blast Loading in Shelter Models - Basement and Mine Shelters.

Abstract

Motion data obtained from 1/12th scale basement and mine shelter models are given for interior wall panels made of plywood when exposed to shockwave-induced interior air flows. Pressure-time loading records are also shown for a solid non-moveable aluminum wall. Shockwaves of 5 to 20 psi side-on over-pressure were allowed to interact with various entrance configurations. High speed camera pictures and pressure-time records show the results of the shockwave induced flows inside the model shelters. Analytical predictions are given for the pressure-time filling of the model shelters and for the full-size shelters.
