Theory of Multiphonon Absorption in Semiconducting Crystals.

Abstract

A correlation function approach is employed to calculate the multiphonon absorption in semiconducting crystals due to higher order electric moments, in the presence of anharmonicity. The authors found an exponential-like behavior for omega/omega sub O much greater than 1, with broader absorption for increasing anharmonicity. Results of numerical computations within a simplified single-particle model are presented for representative crystals.
