Fundamental Limitations on Image Restoration

Abstract

The research supported under this contract dealt with four problem areas pertinent to optical propagation through the turbulent atmosphere and to the problem of object restoration. They are: (1) The object restoration problem as an improperly posed inverse problem: a solution via singular value decomposition. (2) Sums of independent lognormally distributed random variables. (3) Realizability conditions on the covariance of the wavefront aberration function. (4) Statistics of the transfer function; temporal and random amplitude effects.
