The Analysis and Control of Large Scale Composite Systems.
Abstract
Many physical systems are composed of an interconnection of smaller subsystems. This thesis is concerned with the analysis and control of such large Scale Composite (LSC) dynamic systems. Each subsystem and all interconnections are assumed to be linear and time-invariant. Structural properties and optimality considerations are investigated. Related to structural properties, the existence of the composite state space of full dimension, location of eigenvalues, controllability, pole-placement, stabilizability and disturbance rejection are analyzed. Two graphs are defined related to the LSC system. These aid in determining existence of loop-free interconnections, identifying constituents in multilevel structures, enumerating paths and checking existence conditions and eigenvalue locations. A weak interconnection condition is defined and used for both location of composite system eigenvalues and obtaining a sufficient condition for stability.
