The Design of a Dual Edge and Level Flip-Flop.

Abstract

The study analyzes the operation of currently manufactured edge sensitive flip-flops based on the activity of the internal state variables. These edge sensitive devices are grouped into seven families according to their mode of operation, and an analysis table is developed for each family. A detailed study of each analysis table is conducted and the findings, including a decision as to whether the device can be used with the edge and level sensitive analysis and synthesis procedures previously developed, and presented. Finally, a new Dual Edge and Level (DEL) flip-flop that can be manufactured as a single integrated circuit is developed. A detailed analysis and evaluation of the DEL flip-flop is also presented.
