Visor System Materials for Aluminized Firemen's Hoods. Report No. 1: Problem Identification.

Abstract

The study determined the durability of the gold-coated facepiece component of the crash-crew firefighters' visor system, because field observations indicated that the gold coating wore off readily. The study examined methods employed by fire station personnel in caring for the facepiece and in replacing it; and the effect of various contaminants and abrasive materials on the quality of the gold coating and its subsequent heat resistance.
