A Direct Approach to the Theory of the Degree of a Mapping.
Abstract
This expository paper revives an approach to the theory of the degree of a mapping from Euclidean n-space into Euclidean n-space of value to analysts and applied mathematicians that has been obscured by the explosive growth of recent years. This approach can be called that of singular homology, a field which has been eclipsed by the rise of simplicial homology and its many generalizations.
