Origin of Plastic Deformation in Olivine and Pyroxene.

Abstract

This report describes work initiated under the Contract in which it was proposed to study the slip systems in olivine and pyroxenes using electron microscopy, determine the high temperature crystal structures of these minerals and with this data model the motion of dislocations through these structures. Using this approach it is hoped to be able to predict which slip systems will predominate under particular temperature and strain rate conditions.
