The Coanda Effect Oil/Water Separator: A Development Study.

Abstract

A new method of separating free oil from oil/water mixtures is under development at the Civil Engineering Laboratory. This technique uses the fluid-dynamic phenomenon, called the 'wall attachment, or Coanda effect'; such a separator would be considerably smaller than the conventional gross separators of the laminar flow types. This report describes in detail the development program of the separator from the original single-stage separator through the 20-gpm multi-stage separator.
