Infantry Applications of the Night Vision Goggles, AN/PVS-5. (A Pilot Study-September 1974)

Abstract

Mobility and compatability tests of the AN/PVS-5 night vision goggles for infantry applications were conducted during August 1974 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Daylight observations of static relationships between the goggles and selected clothing/equipment ensembles were made. In addition, field observations, attitudinal measures and obstacle times are reported for 12 soldiers performing with the goggles at night, in combat ensemble over a 500- meter assault course. Recommendations for improvement of goggle design and further research are provided.
