A Small Hand-Portable Multiple Beam Sonar.
Abstract
A small, portable, battery operated multibeam sonar was built with a 6 in. cylindrical hydrophone array. The beamforming technique uses a portions of the cylindrical array to approximate several line hydrophones to form multiple beams. Information is presented that will make it possible for a design engineer to select the optimum parameters for a cylindrical array in order to achieve a desired hydrophone beamwidth.
